Thymosin α1 is a 28-amino-acid acetylated peptide originally isolated from thymic tissue. It modulates innate and adaptive immunity through Toll-like receptors on dendritic cells, promoting T-cell maturation and Th1 cytokine responses.
As thymalfasin it is approved in more than 30 countries for hepatitis B and as a vaccine adjuvant; a comprehensive review summarises its clinical use across viral infection, immunodeficiency, sepsis and oncology adjunct settings 1.
