Pinealon is the synthetic tripeptide Glu-Asp-Arg (EDR), one of the short 'peptide bioregulators' developed by the St Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. Short peptides of this class are proposed to enter the nucleus and modulate gene expression directly.
EDR has been reported to regulate gene expression and protein synthesis in neuronal models, with proposed epigenetic mechanisms 1, and to show neuroprotective activity in vitro 2.
