Mazdutide is a synthetic analogue of oxyntomodulin that activates both the GLP-1 receptor and the glucagon receptor. Glucagon-receptor activity is associated with increased energy expenditure and hepatic fat reduction in preclinical models.

In the 48-week phase 3 GLORY-1 trial in Chinese adults with obesity or overweight (n = 610), mazdutide 4 mg and 6 mg produced mean weight changes of −10.1% and −12.6% versus 0.5% with placebo 1.
